Whether I've been roofing since I was 17 years old. That's literally half my life now spent on roofs – started with a tiling apprenticeship and never looked back.
I kicked off Bettaseal back in 2010 in Brisbane, then moved down to the Gold Coast for a while before settling in the Northern Rivers about six years ago. My partner and I have been together for 15 years, and she's watched this whole business grow from just me doing everything on my own to what we are today. We've got two kids, we surf, we fish, we're proper locals now.
We’ve Been

In 2022, we lost our home in the floods. Just gone. Then the QLD borders shut right after, which made rebuilding incredibly hard – couldn't get materials, couldn't get tradies across the border, it was a nightmare.
But you know what? That experience taught me more about what homeowners go through than any business course ever could. The stress, the uncertainty, dealing with insurance, trying to find people you can trust when you're vulnerable – I get it now in a way I never did before.
After we lost our home, I made a decision. We lent our roofing services and our whole team to the community to help people get back on their feet. Because when your community needs you, you show up. Simple as that.
The Team.
These days we've got nine blokes in the team, all Northern Rivers locals, all good at what they do. I used to do everything myself, but now I've got a crew I can actually rely on.
Mick is our number one. He's 65, been roofing forever, and honestly he's a legend. The kind of bloke who just knows roofs inside out.
Felix is 23, fully qualified, and an absolute unicorn in this industry. One of the youngest blokes on the crew but he rules the roost because he's that capable. If I could clone him, I would.
Darcey's got seven years under his belt, he's 25, and super capable. Solid as they come.
Jack's also 25 with five years' experience. Very capable, knows his stuff.
Hamish used to run his own roofing company, he's in his 40s now and works with us. Brings a lot of experience to the jobs.
Ryan's 46 and has been roofing for over 25 years. Seen it all, done it all.
Lincoln's our third-year apprentice, he's 22 and doing really well. Still plenty to learn, but he's got the willingness and that's what matters.
Paul is our jack of all trades – plumber, sparky, welder, you name it. Handy to have someone who can tackle whatever comes up.
Josh is another jack of all trades – he's an arborist by trade, which comes in handy more often than you'd think.
Then we've got Lochie and Keithe rounding out the crew.
How
We Work.
Look, roofing isn't rocket science, but it does require doing things properly. No shortcuts, no "she'll be right" attitude. We treat every roof like it's protecting our own families.
We're big on communication because I know how frustrating it is when tradies don't keep you in the loop. You'll know when we're coming, what we're doing, and exactly what it'll cost. If something changes or we find an issue, we'll call you straight away and talk through your options.
And honestly? If your roof doesn't actually need replacing, I'll tell you. I'd rather do a small repair now and have you call us in five years when you genuinely need a new roof, than sell you something you don't need today. That's just how we operate.
